Senior Systems Administrator, Platform Services
This role is focused on Microsoft-based technologies, identity and access services, collaboration platforms, endpoint management, Windows Server services, and related enterprise systems. The successful candidate will provide technical administration, escalation support, documentation, mentorship, and operational improvements for systems used across stores, offices, distribution centres, and other business areas.
As a senior member of the Platform Services team, this position will also guide junior technical staff, support Service Desk and Help Desk escalations, and work directly with end users and business stakeholders when required. This role works closely with Infrastructure Services, Security, Service Desk, Desktop Support, Application teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Administer, maintain, and continuously improve Microsoft-based enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and business-critical services.
- Provide advanced support for enterprise infrastructure, cloud services, identity platforms, and business-critical systems.
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex infrastructure, identity, endpoint, and application issues.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem resolution efforts to improve system reliability, performance, and user experience.
- Design, implement, and support solutions that enhance security, scalability, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge sharing to Systems Administrators, Service Desk staff, and other support teams.
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects including upgrades, migrations, cloud initiatives, system modernization, and service improvement efforts.
- Develop and maintain technical standards, operational procedures, architecture documentation, and knowledge resources.
- Participate in incident, change, problem, and service management processes while helping drive continuous service improvement.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance activities and on-call support rotations as required.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience supporting and administering enterprise IT infrastructure within a medium to large organization.
- Strong experience supporting Microsoft enterprise technologies and cloud-based services.
- Advanced experience supporting enterprise Microsoft and infrastructure technologies within complex environments.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and cross-functional troubleshooting efforts.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing technical guidance to junior administrators and support teams.
- Experience leading or contributing to infrastructure upgrades, migrations, technology implementations, or service improvement initiatives.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, evaluate solutions, and support organizational objectives.
- Strong understanding of IT service management practices, including incident, request, change, and problem management.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative, customer-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Technical Experience
The ideal candidate will have experience with several of the following:
- Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and related collaboration technologies.
- Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, Conditional Access, MFA, identity governance, and access management solutions.
- Microsoft Intune, endpoint lifecycle management, compliance policies, application deployment, and device management.
- Advanced Windows Server administration, troubleshooting, and platform optimization.
- PowerShell automation, scripting, and operational process improvement.
- File services, print services, IIS, and Windows-based infrastructure technologies.
- SQL Server administration or operational database platform support.
- Enterprise application support, monitoring solutions, vendor coordination, and service integration.
- DNS, DHCP, certificates, backup and recovery, virtualization, business continuity, and disaster recovery concepts.
- ITSM, ticketing, documentation, workflow, and service management platforms.
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Experience with IAM engineering, identity integrations, SSO, access governance, privileged access management, or automated account lifecycle processes.
- Experience with Windows Autopilot, endpoint compliance, security baselines, application packaging, or modern endpoint management practices.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Graph, Microsoft 365 compliance, or security administration.
- Experience designing or implementing Microsoft 365, Entra ID, or identity management solutions.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365 or other enterprise business applications.
- Experience with VMware, Veeam, backup technologies, virtualization platforms, or related infrastructure services.
- Experience leading enterprise migrations, cloud transformation initiatives, or infrastructure modernization projects.
- Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, or similar IT service management and workflow platforms.
- Experience within retail, healthcare, pharmacy, distribution, or other multi-site operating environments.
- Microsoft certifications such as MS-102, MS-700, SC-300, MD-102, Azure certifications, or equivalent practical experience.
