This key position demands sharp technical skills, a high degree of discipline, organization, and attention to detail. This role involves tight deadlines, accounting for multiple companies and variety of accounting activities ranging from general ledger transactions to financial reporting.
The Senior Accountant may also be requested to represent the Finance department on special project teams and be required to assist management in supporting the operation of a department as circumstances arise.
- Protect and maintain confidentiality of all financial and operational information.
- Complex account reconciliations for both Balance Sheet and P&L accounts providing comparison against prior years and budgets
- Create and maintain continuity schedules for select GL accounts
- Prepare reconciliation of intercompany accounts
- Assist with the preparation of mid-year and annual audit working papers and will work closely with the Finance team and the auditors to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner
- Perform detailed and summarized variance analysis for multiple accounts within the various companies within the group.
- Summarize, prepare, and post journal entries for related parties and update the schedule of balances
- Update and maintain schedules for prepaid and accrual accounts for multiple entities and departments
- Assist with month-end, quarter and year-end tasks related for variance analysis, posting accruals and capital expense reclasses
- Remittance of any regulatory reports for various business units
- Assist with the accounting and reporting requirements for all business units and any new companies that may be added to the London Drugs Group.
- Preparation of schedules and reconciliations in support of monthly financial statement preparation.
- Providing monthly and annual information reporting to Statistics Canada as required.
- Works with the Director of Finance and Assistant Corporate Controller to ensure a clean and timely midyear and end audit as well as outside regulatory audits.
- Support Director of Finance and Assistant Corporate Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Designated CPA or Final stage (passed Final examination and working on qualifying practical experience requirements) being designated CPA in Canada.
- Strong technical accounting skills coupled knowledge of ASPE and IFRS
- Experience in Retail industry is an asset
- Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with a large ERP system e.g., Peoplesoft or D365
- Strong technical accounting skills and in-depth knowledge of GAAP
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Highly organized and able to multitask effectively and work under changing priorities.
- Initiative to isolate and solve problems.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
