Loss Prevention Systems Technical Specialist
The Loss Prevention Systems Technical Specialist is member of the Loss Prevention Asset Protection team providing technical expertise, technical project management, and administration of Loss Prevention systems such as networked video and security monitoring, analytics and analysis tools, and traditional security systems.
Loss Prevention Systems Technical Specialist provides support for internal stakeholder groups who use our Loss Prevention systems. This position provides operational guidance and recommendations on the deployment and maintenance of Loss Prevention Systems Company wide.
- Protect all company assets and reduce losses.
- Operate, administer, and monitor maintenance of specific Loss Prevention Systems including but not limited to video, access control, intrusion, data analysis, etc.
- Ensure optimal configuration and user administration of networked loss prevention video surveillance systems.
- Review and assess Loss Prevention systems performance, make recommendations on solutions for evaluation and implementation.
- Develop training materials to assist in the development of end user skills, provide support to department training efforts as required.
- Participate in vendor relationships related to utilization of equipment, tools, and services.
- Attend select industry meetings and events; remain current on security technology as it applies to Loss Prevention Systems, including video, intrusion, data, and analytics.
- Develop technology solutions to security challenges and make recommendations for new Loss Prevention systems.
- Work with the Asset Protection security design team on store development projects to plan a facility security strategy and design Loss Prevention systems to protect those facilities.
- Provide guidance and support to stakeholders integrating with Loss Prevention Systems on approved projects.
- Attend store locations to conduct site inspections of systems under development, and established systems for proper functioning.
- Support internal team utilization of Loss Prevention technology (i.e. Investigations, Response Centre, DSC & Supply Chain Security, and Corporate Security Team.)
- Represent company loss prevention objectives during projects and interdepartmental meetings.
- Carry communication tools (mobile phone, pager) and respond to after-hours emergencies, and alarm calls as required.
- Will travel to any company location or on behalf of company to industry events when required.
- Will be available to communicate with the LP team, Executive team, and authorities outside of scheduled hours as needed

- Advanced knowledge and ability to utilize security systems including CCTV, Access control, Intrusion Systems, Perimeter protection, Asset Tracking, Analytics, Exception Reporting, and architectural hardware.
- Advanced general computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint) familiarity with access control, alarm monitoring, DVR and NVR software and hardware platforms is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is preferred.
- Ability to read construction drawings and electrical diagrams required.
- Ability to read, evaluate, propose, and write technical or construction specifications as they pertain to security systems and devices.
- Ability to meet with all levels of management of various London Drugs departments, discuss with confidence on-going projects and make security recommendations.
- Working knowledge of security practices, investigative evidence gathering, and functioning of criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of criminal code sections and standards of evidence applicable to loss prevention.
- Knowledge of privacy laws and regulation and how it applies in a retail environment.
- Initiative to isolate and solve problems.
- Ability to configure and manage alarm monitoring and systems management tools, preferably Bold Manitou, DLS-5, and Sur-gard Systems.
- Security related education (Security Management) or recognized professional accreditation preferred.
- Industry training or professional certification (i.e. LPC, PSP, or ASP) preferred.
- Formal security, computer, or technical systems related post-secondary education or a combination of education and experience that yields the required knowledge, strengths and skills.
- Provincial security worker license, with CCTV installer endorsement required, Security Consultant endorsement preferred.
- Trade qualification (i.e.: Low voltage, Alarm Installations, etc.) is an asset.
- Extensive experience in specifying security related systems, hardware, and platforms in new store development or renovations.
- Experience specifying operation of architectural hardware and deployment of hierarchical keyways to support a security plan.
- Experience In root cause analysis and post incident evaluation following a burglary or physical security incident.
- Experience in developing evidence based security recommendations and the follow up implementation of Loss Prevention Systems.
- Knowledge of basic networking, PC based security surveillance systems and wireless communication.
- Training in security design and crime prevention principles (i.e.: CPTED, Protection in Depth, etc.)
- First Aid and W.H.I.M.I.S. Training
